Alepochori is a seaside settlement that has experienced a large tourist development in recent years. In addition to the permanent population, it also has rental accommodation. During the summer period, the population (permanent and seasonal) exceeds 3 000 inhabitants.
Currently, both the quantity and quality of water supplying the Municipality of Alepohori is insufficient to meet the needs, resulting in severe problems, especially during the summer months. Most existing boreholes and springs in the area provide water of unsuitable quality for water supply due to increased conductivity and increased concentration of chlorine ions. In recent years, efforts have been made to find water (of suitable quality) but have been unsuccessful.
The supply currently does not meet demand and the quality of the water is polluted with chlorine ions above normal levels. The supply is not sufficient and needs to be increased, resulting in pressure on the water supply in the area.
